Candidate for California Senate District 15, 2020

Poor, Elderly, and Disabled

I intend to do as much as I am allowed in the position of state senator to assist the disabled community, senior citizens, and the poor in our district and our state.

It concerns me that many of those that are disabled are unable to find employment. I hope to assist to make the process of finding employment in the disabled community vastly better. It will be important to me to be part of ensuring that facilities throughout California are “friendly” to the disabled community. The disabled community should have equal access to transportation comparable to the non-disabled. Any disabled person should have equivalent access to transportation in the sense that if I (a non-disabled person) can jump into my car and go someplace anytime of the day, they should be able to as well. With the help of disabled advocates we will review the ADA and create state specific legislation that will improve upon the ADA federal law (but specific to the state of California).

Budget priorities in California should include accessible and affordable housing for seniors. Transportation should be a high priority for seniors as well. Since I believe in a universal healthcare system in California, long term care should be included in such a package.

California has one of the highest poverty rates in the nation. In the district 15 area where enormous wealth resides, it is unacceptable to have a poverty rate that we have.
